After a surprising State Government vote, our neighbors to the East voted to increase their taxes 32% permanently which would supposedly help the State's financial crisis. Turns out, the tax hike would only further seal the state's fate as a bankrupt Midwestern State. Because income taxes would be rising 32%, chances of people paying such high taxes are extremely low. Because of this, Illinois would fall even further into bankruptcy. Besides the economic hardship that Illinois is facing, it was not caused by the people, it was caused by the people that the citizens elected to serve them, the Politicians.
The Politicians in Illinois have lead their once great state down the path of bankruptcy and corruption. Because of this, their state is in the issue that they are currently facing. An excellent example of this corruption is former Governor, Rod Blagojevich, trying to sell now former President Obama's Senate seat. This was caught in Rod was indicted and sent to prison where he remains. Besides this, many back door deals that aren't public, but we know they're going on, could be very well weakening their state further. Then the third reason why Illinois is in a hole is because of the City of Chicago.
Chicago is the third largest City in the United States. Even thought they have million of citizens who can pay taxes to fix their roads and maintain other infrastructure, they don't have enough. Some say they are bankrupt. So the state of Illinois gives Chicago tax money to run their machine and try to stabilize the city so they don't end up like Detroit. Even then, they still have issues funding individual departments such as the Chicago Police Department. The lack of money to stabilize the CPD is so large that the crime levels are flying up faster than the Department can handle. That is a reason that Donald trump is sending the feds into Chicago to try to being crime down before it is to late.
Not only is corruption and wasteful spending taking its toll on the state, but Illinois has been without a budget for three years. Three years without a budget has taken its toll. Bruce Rauner called a special 10 day session to get a budget put in place for the state, yet the politicians over looked this and goofed off until the last minute where a sample budget passed, but wasn't meant for real world use. So what did Mike Madigan and his politicians create for a budget? RAISE THE INCOME TAX! Of course... unless you want your state's tax base to flee from high taxes which will only hurt your state.
Clearly Mike and Friends didn't really think this through. That is why Bruce Rauner says that he will, "Veto Mike Madigan's permanent 32% Tax Hike the minute it reaches my desk". A good response from the governor who is pushing hard to get a budget and not a scam to take more tax dollars away form the people of the State. But, here comes the backlash, the Democratic Party in the state sees this as a desperate move by Rauner to save his Governor seat as the latest Governor race takes shape. Bruce Rauner says that, "This is not the case", and "I am going to get taxes lowered for Illinoisans so it grows our economy". The Democrats do not believe this at all.
So, as the gubernatorial race heats up, the Democratic Party's argument is that "Rauner is bad. His plan is bad. He is a Billionaire and doesn't represent us!" Well, stop for one minute. Your Party's leading candidate is J.B. Pritzker, little do you people know that he and his whole family are billionaires. Turns out, J.B's net worth is $3.6 Billion, but he hasn't made tis known. Further more, he is running as an Anti-Establishment candidate when in 2008, shortly after Obama was elected, Blagojevich tried to sell J.B. Obama's vacant Senate seat (CHICAGO TRIBUNE). True corruption at its finest. Lies spewed by the Left have led to this issue appearing. To the many who will vote for Mr. Pritzker, don't be surprised if he doesn't bring change, he is the definition of the establishment.
But hey! There is always a mathematician running! Mr. Daniel Biss (Democrat). Whoopee (Sarcasm intended). Yet another individual who claims he is for the people but has been a do-nothing politician in Springfield. He voted to raise the taxes 32%. Anti Establishment my ass. Even the sane people of Illinois will see through his lies and see who he really is. Mr. Biss is a do-nothing, just because he is a mathematician doesn't make him any better than J.B. Pritzker. If anything, Mr. Pritzker is smarter because all the money he has made. But neither of these two are as smart as the incumbent Governor who has pushed to make both sides work for the people in one of the most populist governorships in Illinois' history.
So how did I go from the 32% tax increase to the 2018 Governors race? Simple, the answer is Corruption. Corruption has torn Illinois apart and the State can no longer afford to be led by such incompetence that it will begin to affect neighboring states. How? Corruption is like a disease, it spreads when untreated. Sooner or later, if Illinois doesn't solve their debt and corruption issues, nearby states that are vulnerable will begin to feel the heat and will crack under the pressure.
So, has Illinois lost their minds? Well, the people and Governor Rauner haven't but the Politicians, they have lost their minds. The Governor and the people should work together to get the budget passed that they want without raising their taxes before it is to late. Even though the State Senate Votes tomorrow on the planned budget, possibility of it passing without raising taxes is very slight since they have vowed to pass the 32% increase.
UPDATE: 7/4/17- Bruce Rauner Vetoed the 32% tax hile but the Senate Overided this decision. It goes to the house that can uphold the override or go with the Veto. If the tax goes in effect, I would like all sane people of Illinois to vote those representatives out of office because your taxes are going to be unbelievably high.
What do you think? Should Illinois continue down the path it is going or pause and reconsider where they are? Tell me in the comments section below.
