The Café building within the City Garden was home to three former businesses that couldn't hold on long enough or attract enough people to enjoy the Café over looking the Park. The former businesses were a upscale restaurant called Terrace View. The Second incarnation of this café building was a place called The Chili Bowl which aimed to attract Downtown employees during lunch. The Third and latest closure was Death in the Afternoon. But the fourth time could be a charm with Kaldi's Coffee planning to move in to this space.
The plan is to have a full service café that attracts a wide range of customers. Kaldi's also believes that the site is perfect since it is right along the never fully completed Gateway Mall stretching from Tucker to the Riverfront. the new café will also bring along a renovation of the current building to make it a even better place to enjoy your drinks. Expanding the outdoor patio is a must with the new plan. This new Coffee shop plans to open sometime later this year or early next year.
Kaldi's has been expanding their presence in St. Louis City. Most recently, they opened up a Café in Midtown next door to the St. Louis University Property in the Recently renovated Gerhart building. But these are not going to be the only ones in the City. Another location is also in the works to open up when the Euclid Project wraps up early next year. In other words, Kaldi's Coffee is moving into a new store front along the emerging Euclid Shopping District in the Central West End.
In all, the new locations will bring around 30 Jobs to St. Louis City which helps grow the economy and gets people back to work.
