Let this be a rallying call. A call to all of the politicians and citizens of the St. Louis area. We need to unite in order to bring Amazon to St. Louis.
As as many people know, Amazon announces that they are looking for a new home for their “Second Headquarters”. They call it “HQ2”. St. Louis is more than ready for a large company, like Amazon, to build or move in to.
St. Louis, as we know, is home to Monsanto, Anheuser Busch and the innovative Cortex District. These are defining us in terms of industry and improvements in our day to day lives. Having Amazon come to St. Louis will further boost our economy and grow our national image as a innovative City that the likes of which has never been seen before.
While Mayor Lyda Krewson, County Executive Steve Stenger and Governor Eric Greitens all prepare to get a great proposal ready for everyone’s delight, Amazon states that they want the HQ in a “Suburban or Urban area that has a population of over 1 Million people”. The St. Louis Metropolitan Region has about 3 Million people living in it. More than enough for Amazons standards. We also have land that is plentiful to build on in not only the city, but also the county. Here are some locations...
1- City of St. Louis. Parking lots South of Downtown to Chouteaus landing. This area is prime for development and has access to Interstate 64 and 44-55-70. There is also a nearby MetroLink Station at the stadium. The area is in desperate need of construction and revitalization. This area can hold the necessary 50,000 employees that Amazon wishes to employ, at HQ2.
2- City of St. Louis. Downtown on the Riverfront. Remember the NFL Stadium that failed when the Rams left the city? Remember where it was supposed to go? Remember the “PlanB”? Well that Plan B could House the new Amazon HQ2. Plenty of space and the Riverfront needs to be revitalized. It would do wonders for Downtown North and the Riverfront. Maybe even Amazon could spruce up the Riverfront and make it more inviting. This one seems to be the idea largely supported by people on Social Media. (Rendering at the beginning of article).
3- St. Louis County. Maryland Heights. Near the Missouri River on the farmland near MO-364. Perfect location for a HQ.
We will see what is released when the city and county unveil the proposal for Amazon. St. Louis needs Amazon. If they choose us, it will be the third big company or thing moving into the city. First was the NGA. Second is Microsoft at Cortex and now hopefully this.
This story will be update as time goes on.
