Progress is steady on Barnes Jewish Hospital's nearly billion dollar campus renewal project. Phase 1 is what is under construction right now and will include the Modernist Architecture. These buildings will change the skyline of Central West End when they are completed in 2017 sometime. When phase 2 starts shortly after completing phase 1, construction will last until 2022. Phase 2 will include the destruction of Queeny Tower and a new building built there resembling the farthest left building on the animated image. The project also goes with the growing change in the Central West End area. The entire Central West End Area has seen the largest construction growth the city has had since the 1970's-1990's. Some of the more notable buildings being built in the area is Ikea, City Target, and a new office tower that will mainly be owned by BJC healthcare systems. There are also multiple residential projects in that area, one of those projects is bringing along the cities first Whole Foods Market. Also, a technology based district Cortex is headquartered in this area. Cortex is what I think a small silicon valley in the Mid West.
This area is what I believe becoming the new place to be as businesses and people move out of downtown and into the county and urban suburbs of the city. Even though Clayton is a great place to move from Downtown, they don't have everything like Central West End. Central West End has restaurants, hotels, offices, residential, hospitals, banks, shopping and entertainment with some fancy stores. Everything you need to have a amazing area to hang out in. More projects will continue to pop up around that area in the future and it will continue to bring people into the city.
This is the new Saint Louis and I am happy to be living in this growing city!
Below are multiple photos and videos just to show a few of the largest projects in the Central West End area.
